Surface at the Robert Matsui Gallery: Sacramento Town Hall

This is a the setup of the Surface show at the Robert Matsui Gallery in the new Sacramento Town Hall. As the title suggests there are any different surfaces or textures within the pieces. These sculptures in the box are made of stoneware by Maggie Jiminez. The left is Da Judge and the right is Aphid. The wings of Da Judge is translucent and the body appears to be matte gray green with metallic gold. Overall the Aphid has many rough textures with the indentations being glossy and the rest being matte black. Fissure by Jaya King encaustic on panel, 2017. It appears to be like marbled texture with gold in the crack and appears to be matte. This is a close up of Merle Axelrad's Branch which is a fabric collage from 2011. The lighting and glare from the windows made it impossible to capture a good picture of the whole piece.
