Monumental at the Jay Jay Gallery

Monumental exhibition at the Jay Jay Gallery in Sacramento, California included large paintings and sculptures. This picture is from the night of the reception past the entrance to the right. There was a live band performing, it was such a wonderful reception.

Crystalline Jester is a sculpture by CSUS professor Robert Ortbal. Materials used include: cardboard, resin, paint, flock, 2015.

It appears to be held together by wire, there is no direct light on the sculpture itself. The sculpture itself has different textures that are matte, glossy, and soft. Light peers through the geometric shapes and reflects parts of the surface.

On the wall behind the sculpture is Untitled by Rick Siggins. Acrylic on canvases from 2011. From a distance it seemed to have a pattern textile look.

Close up, it looks like it was embroidered with multiple colored thread. The lines seem to have similar weight and speed but the layering of the wavy lines make the piece look dimensional.

This piece behind these people are by Ian Harvey, also a professor at CSUS. It was impossible to get a good picture of the whole piece because there were so many people constantly in front of it during the reception. The painting is on paper and held up onto the wall with the use of magnets.

Here are two close ups of the piece. The use of dripping, layering and use of lines to create space within the piece. The surface of the piece is also interesting, there are metallic, matte and satin elements.

The piece I'm in front of was made by Ian Harvey's wife, Koo Kyung Sook. Mixed Media, 2017. It was painted on what seems to be thick paper and held up by magnets. It is pushed off the wall with the use of wood.

The piece looks like a topical geography map with parts that are raised up and painted on.
